Dr Tim McNamara graduated from University of Melbourne in 1986. Following training at Geelong Hospital and John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle, Dr McNamara obtained his RCPA fellowship as a General Pathologist in 1995.

He worked with Hunter Area Pathology before being appointed Staff Specialist with Pathology Queensland based at Nambour General Hospital and subsequently at Sunshine Coast University Hospital as Director of Clinical Pathology. In 2005 he formed Coastal Pathology with Dr Joe Gatto which merged with QML Pathology in 2019.

His special interests centre on general surgical pathology and cytopathology.
