Biography

Dr Hein Sonnendecker studied Medicine and Pathology in South Africa and obtained Fellowship of the College of Pathologists (South Africa) in Anatomical Pathology in 1996. Whilst working in Johannesburg as a consultant pathologist and lecturer at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital, the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere and a major teaching/academic hospital of the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, he reported a wide range of Histopathology and Cytology and developed special interest in Dermatopathology and Tropical pathology.

Dr Sonnendecker was involved in medical teaching and research projects/publications and was an author in the largest study of bone marrow involvement by cryptococcus in AIDS patients.  He values the subsequent achievement of the Diploma in Tropical medicine & Hygiene (DTM&H) and The Diploma of The Royal College of Pathologists (London).

In 2000 Dr Sonnendecker migrated with family to Perth and obtained the Fellowship of The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) in 2003. His Australian career has involved a range of public and private experience and he enjoys attending regular academic meetings and conferences meeting with colleagues from all over the globe.
