After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science majoring in Biomedical Science, Dr Guard went on to complete his MBBS at the University of Queensland before carrying out his residency at the Gold Coast Hospital. He then went on to work as a Senior House Officer for Emergency Departments in the Gold Coast, Nambour, Armidale, Murwillumbah and Port Macquarie.
Following his residency, Dr Guard spent the next five years training in Anatomical Pathology throughout South East Queensland; working at the Princess Alexandra, Royal Brisbane, Mater, Prince Charles and Gold Coast Hospitals. During this time he became an Associate Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Queensland and gained fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
Dr Guard joined the QML Pathology Histology Department in January 2018, specialising in Dermatopathology, as well as taking a keen interest in gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology.
