- Graduated from University of Pretoria (M.B., Ch.B.) in 1977
- Spent four years in General Practice and hospital based practice in South Africa
- Specialised in Pathology obtaining his F.F. Path. from the Natal University, Durban in 1987
- After 6 years in both public and private pathology in South Africa, Dr Botha moved to New Zealand where he worked in private pathology for over 12 years
- During this time he held academic posts teaching Junior Medical Officers and assisted the Coroner with forensic autopsies
- In 2006 Dr Botha moved to Australia to take up the position as Pathologist in Charge of QML Pathology's Central Queensland Branch
- Special interests: dermatopathology, uropathology, gastrointestinal pathology and gynaecological pathology/cytology
