After studying at Monash University and gaining first class honours, Dr Tannenberg joined the Monash University Department of Pathology in 1969. He then studied neuropathology at the Royal Perth Hospital before obtaining his fellowship in 1974. Between 1975 and 1980, Dr Tannenberg was employed as Staff Pathologist at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Hospital. After relocating to Brisbane, he was appointed Deputy Director of Pathology at the Mater Hospital in 1980. Seven years later, he became Director of Neuropathology. He held this position for 14 years, during which time he was responsible for neuropathology for the whole of Queensland. In 1986-87, he won a Queensland Government Travelling Scholarship to study neuropathology in Glasgow.
Dr Tannenberg joined QML Pathology in August 2001 as a Consultant Histopathologist at the Central Laboratory.
